Each year there are several special dates scheduled for volunteer training. These are normally held on an evening. There is a spring volunteer training, summer volunteer trainings, and a fall volunteer training. We ask volunteers to fill out forms ahead of time (if possible) and be at the barn at 6:15PM (if possible). The training will start with reviewing the required volunteer forms and will include a tour of the barn, a review of RideAbility philosophy and goals and end with sidewalker practice (walking next to a horse in the arena). The evening training should be completed before 8:30PM.
The 2020 training dates for new volunteers are:
April 7, Tuesday 6:15pm-8:15pm Spring volunteer training
May 18, Monday 6:15pm-8:15pm Summer #1 volunteer training
July 10, Friday 6:15pm-8:15pm Summer #2 volunteer training
September 10, Thursday 6:15pm-8:15pm Fall volunteer training
*A great introduction to our training procedures can start with viewing the Volunteer Training Videos on this website (look under the volunteer info tab for training videos).
If you would like to volunteer, but the above dates do not work for you we have alternative training available. Many volunteers have used the process of coming to the barn to observe a class and completing the Volunteer Training Checklist. After this, the volunteer is able to sidewalk with an experienced volunteer to complete their training.
